Yogacharya Don Abrams, affectionately called "Don Baba", was empowered in 1996 to teach Kriya Yoga techniques, by his spiritual master Paramahamsa Hariharananda, a realized master in the Kriya Yoga lineage of Babaji, Lahiri Mahashaya, Sri Yukteswar and Paramahansa Yogananda. "Don Baba" has been sharing his insights and experiences gained from twenty years of close personal contact with Kriya Yoga Master Paramahamsa Hariharananda. In addition, "Don Baba" has initiated many sincere seekers into the path of Kriya Yoga and continues to guide weekly kriya yoga meditation classes in New York City. He also conducts weekend workshops, several times a year, for the continuing spiritual development of kriya yoga students, all over the world.

Paramahamsa Hariharananda, at the young age of 41, achieved the highest spiritual state of consciousness, "Nirvakalpa Samadhi", (pulselessness-breathlessness state), which is a very rare accomplishment. For over fifty years he traveled the world spreading the message of Kriya Yoga and giving spiritual vibration to sincere seekers. "Baba" Hariharananda touched the hearts of many people, from many countries, with his non-sectarian, non-dogmatic, scientific approach to meditation and god-realization, thru the practice of kriya yoga. He spent every moment in joyous divine awareness and lovingly uplifted the consciousness of sincere seekers on the path of kriya yoga. In 2002, at the age of 95, he achieved his "Mahasamadhi," the conscious departing of the soul from the body, in Miami, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of teachings and teachers to continue the spreading of the message of Kriya Yoga.
